SUMMARY:Special Class: Introduction To World Religions
DESCRIPTION:MUCC is honored to welcome retired professor Dr. Sharon Miller to teach an intro course on World Religions. This intro course will be followed by many more deeper dives into the world’s religions over the course of the next year. \nThe first class on April 21st will focus on what religion is\, the role religion plays in society\, and ask the question – does religion need a god? The second class on April 28th will look at the differences between cults\, sects\, denominations\, and how culture shapes faith. \nHere is a bit about Sharon and her approach to the courses: \n“I am pleased to be joining you as an instructor for a series of classes on world religions and the role religion plays in people’s lives. To kick off the series\, this spring I will be offering two introductory classes and in the fall we will dive into studying Islam\, followed by Hinduism\, Jains\, Sikhs\, Buddhism\, etc. \nI come to this subject with both an academic and a deep personal love and experience\, having grown up in the Indian subcontinent\, surrounded by a multitude of faiths. I have a Ph.D. in sociology of religion from the University of Notre Dame as well as a M.Div. Seven years ago\, I retired from academia to move to the NW to be closer to family.
