Magnolia United Church of Christ is a vibrant progressive community of faith in Seattle. We invite you to join us and the work we do in our community. Our vision and mission are shared expressions of what we feel God is calling our church to be in this world.

Our Vision
God’s love enlivens us to rise up to be a Christ-inspired, joyous community of faith where spirit and compassion meet.

Our Mission
We gather in the mystery and wonder of God to deepen our faith, seek justice, welcome all, grow community that sustains us and share in the belief that all are beloved of God.

Our Statement on Racism
MUCC  recognizes the painful reality of racial violence, inequality and injustice. We pledge to work faithfully toward changes in all of our local, regional, and national systems as well as in our own hearts and minds.

We call for steadfast racial equality throughout our society institutions  – from law enforcement and the judicial systems, to healthcare, economics, and education. We will listen to and study others’ experiences and views, and seek out those that are different from our own even if those exchanges are uncomfortable. We will explore the complexity of our own privileges, assumptions, and biases. We will vote and encourage and assist others to exercise the right to vote themselves.

Open and Affirming

In 1996, MUCC declared our community to be Open and Affirming.  That means that for the last 30 years we have stood for and with our LGBTQ+ siblings and affirmed their full loving inclusion in the church’s life and ministry.

This is our statement from that work: “We declare ourselves an Open and Affirming congregation that recognizes all people are uniquely loved and valued by God. We welcome diversity of race, abilities, sexual orientation, gender, age, religious backgrounds, opinion, marital status, and economic condition. As an inclusive Christian community, we affirm each person’s unique contributions”.

MUCC’s Way to BEING the Church

Being the Church means reaching outside of our walls and finding ways to be of service to our community partners.  Being the Church means regularly participating in food drives and collections for feeding pantries, and doing service projects in our community.  Being the Church means that each year, instead of being inside the church to worship, we worship by serving our community through service projects that range from making blankets for kids entering foster care, to habitat restoration to writing birthday cards for incarcerated women.  Being the Church means that we are committed to being of service for all of our community, especially our most vulnerable neighbors!

MUCC’s Commitment to the Environment
We profess that we are called to live in harmony with the environment, respecting and honoring the gifts of God’s creation. As people of faith, we affirm that all of God’s creation is sacred. We engage in activities that protect God’s creation and conserve our natural resources. For years, MUCC has held a sacred focus on Creation Justice.  We have a Creation Justice team and are recognized through the National UCC as a designated ‘Creation Justice’ Church.

Every October, MUCC dedicates a ‘Season of Creation’ celebration in worship and our church life where we focus our prayers, laments, learning and actions towards protecting, healing, and transforming our beloved Creation.
